


Teaching Projects
This page is going to present some of the teaching projects I have done in my placement schools. Both being my schemes of work which I wrote and also pre-made projects which have been designed by the school. I have worked in a range of different mediums and taught a variety of lessons. Developing knowledge and techniques in Design and Technology (Textiles, Product Design, Food Tech). During my teaching time I have used a range of different programmes being 3D and 2D CAD, which has been used to develop students design concepts. I also worked with a range of different materials being metals, fabrics, woods and paper and boards.

A-Line Skirt- Marine Life YR10 Self-Made SOW (Textiles Project)
I created a scheme of work based on students creating an a-line skirt. This taught the students skills... like how to use pattern pieces correctly, how to place patterns onto fabric and how to cut out when considering seam allowance. Students developed their sewing skills on the machine and learnt how to use the overlocker to prevent the fabric from fraying. They learnt what the different elements of a skirt are including the centre front, centre back , side seams and facing. Students developed the knowledge of the importance of understanding the right and wrong sides of the fabric and how to cut the fabric to ensure it was on the straight of grain. Throughout this, students gained knowledge in wet felting and designing what they wanted their marine life skirt to look like. This was through drawings and experimentation. Lighting Cube- Yr9 Product Design (Wood Project)
Students for this project learnt how to mark out and cut a butt joint and mitre joint. They used correct equipment to cut the pine being a mitre saw and a tenon saw. Students learnt how to mark out waste and learnt about the significance of marking the waste out. I then taught students how to use 2D CAD to design their sides, they learnt about how the laser cutter engraves and cuts out areas dependent on the colour selected. Students then were taught how to solder their LED circuit, this was done using a visualiser at the front of the classroom to enable all students to see what I was modelling to them. Students learnt how to use the belt sander and solder to comply with the H&S regulations. This image above is an example of student work.

Door Stop- Yr9 (Textiles Project)
For this project the students investigated how to use different printing methods and chose which method they liked the most to develop and use on their door stop. The students learnt how to also do hand embroidery, which was also was translated onto the final door stop outcome. Students learnt how to use equipment around the textiles classroom in a safe way which complied to the H&S regulations. Students explored design to create a design that was individual to them. Cutting on a Stand- A-Level Self-Made SOW (Textiles Project)
I made a scheme of work based on cutting on a stand, this was a skill I developed at university...I wanted to share this skill with the A-Level students at my first placement. This was an element which I wish I had learnt during school, the students used this skill to then choose a corset. These corsets were going to be used as an outcome where students used the manipulation techniques learnt during textiles lessons to develop a piece that includes all aspects of Art and Design- Textiles. This skill taught students how to use a mannequin to create unique shapes and forms using fabric and pinning. This also provided students with information on how the pattern on a mannequin translates into usable pattern pieces to make clothing or costumes. This image above is an example of student work.

Social Spaces- YR9 3D CAD Design; Paper and Board (Product Design Project)
For this project students have to work in the style of Morag Myerscough to make an inviting social space. These social spaces will include bright bold colours, geometric shapes and text. Not only do they get to draw some of their ideas they have been learning how to use Shapr3D, these 3D CAD lessons which I teach them provide them with the knowledge to begin to draw some elements for their social space. They also will work towards making a 3D card model in the style of the designer. This image above is an example of student work.

Pewter Casting- YR9 Metals (Product Design Project)
Students work to a design brief that fit to a design movement (William Morris, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Gerrit Reitveld, Raymond Templier, Robin & Lucienne Day and Ettore Sottsass). These design movements influence the initial drawings which the students. These drawings then progress into being initial ideas which are developed into products which they eventually translate into a pewter casted jewlerry outcome. Hanging Mobile- YR10 Memphis Kinetic Art Metals (Product Design Project)
For this project students experimented using a range of different metals being copper, aluminium and steel. They worked in the style of Memphis to change a hanger into a creative mobile. Students used abstract shapes, geometric patterns and colour to enable them to relate it back closely to the artist. This image above is an example of student work.
